About CyRise

CyRise is a venture accelerator that empowers cybersecurity founders and security leaders. We exist to help the best and brightest minds in cybersecurity get better, faster.

Our model supports the lifecycle of a startup from ideation to investment.

CyRise is the only venture accelerator in Asia-Pacific that focuses on early-stage cybersecurity startups. CyRise offers cyber security founders a 3-month program, $50,000 in investment and early access to customers and investors.

Since 2017 we have invested in 34 companies, with the teams in our portfolio now collectively worth over $200 million. The CyRise brand is recognised throughout Australia for innovation, excellence, community focus and strong thought leadership around cyber security startups. We are a trusted partner to corporate Australia.

CyRise is funded by Deakin University.

Who are we seeking?

From the success of our existing accelerator program in Melbourne, we are now expanding to Sydney and are seeking a program manager to lead the CyRise founder programs there.

We are seeking someone who is energised by the startup journey, and who enjoys helping founders to get better, faster - wherever they are in their journey.

Who are you?

You genuinely like people and want to see them succeed. You value each person for their individuality and their experience.

You have a clear vision of the support that founders need to grow, and you naturally want to do everything you can to help them. This might come from your own founder or startup journey, or other life experience you bring with you.

You get things done. You are organised and a problem solver when last-minute changes happen - which can happen regularly in startups. You have high standards of execution and always seek to improve.

What will you be responsible for?

As program manager, you are the key person that all founders turn to. You answer their questions, sort out the logistics of the program, and make sure that things run smoothly. You help them to develop strong peer relationships with each other and within the CyRise network, you organise lunches, send out gifts, and generally ensure that the founders feel part of the CyRise family.

1/ Accelerator

The annual accelerator program starts in February 2023 for 14 weeks as a mix of in-person and online activities. Each cohort is highly curated, of only 6-8 companies. Your role would include:

  • Day to day management – You keep the program running smoothly, including regular engagement with the founders going through the program to help them achieve their objectives. This would take 80% to 90% of your time while in program.
  • Event planning and execution - Management of events related to the accelerator, throughout the year. This ranges from online and in-person events to Demo Day.
  • Design and develop great program content - based on feedback from participating founders, you will continuously improve the impact of the program to help founders get better, faster.
  • Recruitment and dealflow - be part of the process in picking the best startups for our cohort. You will build an in-depth knowledge of the market overall, and the opportunity to understand how to best support the selected founders.
  • Mentor relationships - Alongside the Head of Program in Melbourne, you will be responsible for ensuring that CyRise mentors are engaged with our founders and that their skills are adding value to the CyRise program. You will also help to identify and recruit new mentors.
  • Alumni network support - ensure that we continue to add value to their startup journey and are seen as people who they can turn to whenever they need advice or support.

2/ Scaleup

This new program, starting in July 2023, also runs for 14 weeks as a mix of in-person and online activities.

It will be focussed on post-seed and pre-Series A companies who likely come from Australia, APAC and the US. These fast-growing cybersecurity scaleups see huge value in our GTM capability in the Australian market. Focussed on practical results, it delivers value by connecting scaleups into the CyRise Industry Advisor network.

This program is currently under development. You would be an integral part of its successful delivery.

3/ Community

CyRise is keen to set up a regular events program which helps to build and strengthen the cybersecurity founder community in Sydney.

You would plan, produce and execute this program of Sydney-based community network events which encourage link-ups between existing and potential cyber security founders and the wider cybersecurity community, including the CyRise cohorts, the Tech Central tech community, and our partners at AISA NSW Cyber Hub and UTS.

What attributes would we like to see in you?

  • You are a person who enjoys people
  • You have the ability to work independently within a small team with a startup mindset
  • You are always seeking to improve your delivery and add value to the experience of the founders
  • You have great attitude with high standards of execution and a lifelong learner
  • Events experience would be useful but not essential - a demonstrated ability to plan and project manage is sufficient
  • Experience in a startup or in the startup community and a background working in cybersecurity or information technology would be welcome

What will you get from this role?

Team - You will be a key member of a small team, which is single-minded in delivering a high-quality experience which empowers others to fulfil their potential. We enjoy working together, don’t take ourselves too seriously, and believe fun is important. We always push ourselves to be better and keep ourselves accountable.

Impact - As the program manager, you’ll work with some of the most talented and ambitious people in the cybersecurity community and help them to grow

Network - You will develop amazing networks within the startup and cybersecurity ecosystem across Australia and APAC, with the scope to make significant impact internationally.

Leadership - You’ll have the autonomy and trust of the CyRise team to drive forward the growth of the accelerator program.

Startups and scaleups - You will get first-hand insights into the life of a cybersecurity founder and what makes a difference to their success

How we’d like to work with you

This is a full-time role, with flexible hours, based in Tech Central, Sydney. You will report directly to the CyRise COO and will be located together with the new Head of Partnerships person. You will be closely supported by the Head of Program Melbourne.

The CyRise leadership team is located in the Melbourne CBD two days a week, and otherwise, we work from home. Office days are agreed as a group to accommodate everyone’s circumstances. We envisage that the new Sydney team would also do a combination of in-office and remote working, and the Melbourne team come to Sydney regularly, especially during the Bootcamp, Accelerator and Scaleup programs.

This role is likely to sometimes involve domestic travel and working hours outside the standard working week (rarely).

The package consists of base salary + superannuation. A laptop is provided and mobile phone costs are covered.

We believe strongly in our cultural values, and call ourselves out if we fail to live up to them.

  • Raise your standards
  • Give-before-you-get
  • Radical transparency
  • Seek truth

The right to work in Australia is essential.

Please note that if you don’t fit all the requirements - but you DO think CyRise is a place you’d like to work - we’re interested in talking to you.
