RapidAIM is an Agriculture IoT system - an internet-linked hardware and software system with data analytics capability. A network of instrumented and wirelessly connected traps automatically detect insect pests. The detections are sent wirelessly in real-time to a cloud-based analytics and storage platform. End-users (agronomists/ biosecurity agents) receive real-time alerts on their smartphones, and early warning forecasts of pest hot-spots. This allows for a rapid response to prevent an outbreak, and manage fruit fly populations. RapidAIM tells the subscriber when there are no flies in the trap so there is no need to visit empty traps. Targeted and up to date information about insect pest populations will allow for farmers, crop advisors and Government Biosecurity officers to more efficiently and effectively manage pest populations.
